 Google Looker Studio is a free analytics tool that allows you to visualize and explore data. You can quickly build dashboards and reports based on structured data such as spreadsheets, databases, APIs, and webpages. Function list

Looker Studio provides several built-in functions for building reports and dashboards. These include:

  • Aggregations – Summarize data across rows or columns.
  • Calculated Fields – Apply calculations to data.
  • Conditional statements – Evaluate one expression depending on another.
  • IF() – Choose between two expressions based on a condition. Use Case () for choosing among multiple options.
  • Now() – Construct a DateTime column or value.
  • COALESCE() – Return the first nonnull value from a list of columns. This function is beneficial when working with NULL values.
  • CASE() – Evaluates multiple conditions and chooses between two or more alternatives.
  • DATE() – Converts a string into a date.
  • TIME() – Converts a number into a time.

Data Transformation

You can transform data into many useful formats and Looker Studio helps you build dashboards and visualizations, as mentioned. Looke Studio also provides many ways to manage data, including calculations and transformations which allow you to change how data looks while retaining its original structure.

Functions such as SUM, MAX, MIN, and AVG help you calculate aggregates across groups of records. Moreover, you can use functions to clean up data, remove unwanted characters and convert dates.

Data Visualization

Looker Studio is a tool for creating interactive data visualizations. With it, you can quickly build beautiful charts and graphs, customize them with different backgrounds, fills, and lines, and choose from an array of fonts, line styles, and color palettes to make your data come to life. You can even use custom shapes and images to add visuals to reports and dashboards and make them easier to read.

With Looker Studio, you don’t just build static reports; you build dynamic reports that allow viewers to change the data shown without editing the original data source. And because Looker Studio uses JavaScript, it works across most browsers and platforms.

Function arguments

Functions allow you to define how certain pieces of information should be handled before being passed along. This will enable you to write easier-to-understand and maintain code. In most programming languages, there are three types of functions:

1. A function that operates upon one value. For example, sum(x) calculates the sum of all numbers in x.

2. A function that operates with multiple values. For example min(a,b,…).

3. A function that operates within a row or column of a table. For instance, max(a,b,….) finds the maximum value among those specified.

In addition, some programming languages support anonymous functions that operate without specifying a name. These are often used to provide default behavior for a group of related statements.

Geo input codes

“Geocoding” refers to converting addresses into latitude and longitude coordinates. There are many different types of geocoders, including online tools like Google Maps API and OpenStreetMap.

There are three main ways to use geocodes. You can convert address strings to lat/lon coordinates, find out where people live based on their postal code, and determine what part of town someone lives in based on their street address.

Define the fields with getSchema()

We are now ready to define our data model. Now, let’s use real numbers to see how we can use the schema to build a report.

The following example will guide us in creating a table containing information about the total sales revenue each store location generates in a month.

The table contains three columns: Store Location ID, Month, and Total Revenue.

Create a new dataset called Sales_Revenue_by_StoreLocation, then add a new table named Sales_Revenue_By_StoreLocation. Next, click the New Table button ad enter the name of the table as Sales_Revenue_Table.

How to download reports in Google Looker Studio

To download the report, go into the dropdown menu and select “Download.” You can download the report directly to your computer, as PDF or add a link so others can access the report.
